Preface: I adore my printer.
That said, today we had a little run-in. It was in the ink department.
Now, I am beyond lucky to have a dear cousin/photographer/design genius who recommended this printer and refillable cartridge ink system to me. What I failed to realize was how very important it is to keep the bottles of ink upright, even if they are stored in a ziplock bag. If you don’t you might end up with a colorful mess:)
Since I pulled the cartridges out to refill, I thought I might give you the inside scoop, in case you ever feel like splurging on a new printer that prints beautifully (like these labels here) and will save you tons of cash in ink (like, we paid $30 over a year ago for the refillable cartridges and ink set and the bottles aren’t even a third gone…)
At any rate, the refilling process is quite simple. Unplug that tiny rubber stopper on the top of the cartridge.
Locate matching bottle of ink to be refilled.
Using two hands (unless one is photographing) place tip of ink bottle into the hole and squeeze gently, watching the fill line through the transparent plastic.
Use a paper towel to wipe up drops of ink around the hole. Replace the rubber stopper. And, you’re done.
Then, just wash those hands, and when people ask, tell them all about the fun you had dying Easter eggs:)
Then remember to store the ink upright to avoid the mess next time!
