5 Tips for Keeping Track of Your Sunnies this Summer
May 6, 2015

I go through sunglasses like water in the summer. Somehow they just disappear and I’m never sure what happened! I have tried to be more mindful, because finding that just-right pair of sunnies can be tricky and I’d love to keep them around for longer than a few months, but not much helped until I got serious about finding some solutions. Today I’m going to let you in on a few of my tried and true secrets. I’ve partnered with Zenni Optical, where you can turn any frames into amazing sunglasses, to bring you these 5 tips for keeping track of your sunnies this summer!

TIP 1: Get the kids their own pair

A small collection of kid-sized sunnies at the ready does wonders for keeping your own glasses safe with you. Most of the time, my kids are excited about being just like mom, even though they don’t want to wear their own glasses for long.  I stash inexpensive (like dollar-store) kid sunnies along with some swimming goggles into a pouch inside my diaper bag to let them have and use when they want them. It’s no secret that when you put things in the same place every day, they’ll be there. But sometimes we forget to assign that place to our things. It might be a tray in the entry, a drawer in your dresser, or a bowl in the kitchen. Choose a home for your sunglasses at your house, and practice putting them there every day. Just like finding a specific place to put sunglasses at your house, do the same for each bag you use regularly. Choose which pocket or zipper they’ll live in and only put them there. My diaper bag has this semi-hidden front pocket that is home of my phone, keys, and sunglasses. Putting them there every time I’m out makes retrieving them so much easier than digging through the bag or wondering if I left them somewhere along the way.Keep Track of Your Sunglasses! -One Little Minute Blog-4TIP 4: Designate a single pair of driving sunglasses and don’t take them out of the car

My swagger wagon came with this cool drop-down sunglasses compartment up in the ceiling, and I keep one pair in the car to wear while driving. It might seem like a hassle to switch glasses in the car, but it actually saves so much time searching for a pair when I’ve misplaced them. If your car doesn’t have a built-in spot for them, I came up with a super-simple car sunglasses DIY for you. (frame style here)Keep Track of Your Sunglasses! -One Little Minute Blog-2Simply thread two stretchy elastics (these are hair ties) around your sun visor.

Then fold the temples of the glasses through the elastics. Your car sunglasses will stay in place when you’re not wearing them, and be easily accessible when you are ready to drive. It doesn’t get much easier than that!

Some sunglasses come with a case (every pair from Zenni Optical does), but not everyone uses it. Use it! Consistently putting my sunglasses in a case was one of the first most helpful solutions for me not only keeping track of them, but keeping them safe. There are a bunch of fun sunglasses cases available (I’ll be sharing the simple no-sew DIY for this leather case later this month here on the blog), but you can even use something as simple as a sock to keep your sunnies protected. Using these five tips, I’ve been able to successfully keep track of two pairs of sunglasses for a record amount of time (more than a couple months!) Now maybe I can start collecting a couple more favorite pairs, knowing that they’ll be safe in my keeping.
