5 Helpful Pocket-sized Items to Have on Hand
July 10, 2015

Five Essential Items-1

Ever since I started carrying a bag, whether backpack, purse, handbag, cross body, or now the ever-present diaper bag, I’ve stashed some of the same items in it. You know, life’s essentials for people, for women. As the years have gone by some of the items have changed, and these five are the ones that have stayed the same. They are my 5 Helpful Pocket-Sized Items to always have on hand, for myself, or for friends and strangers who seem to need them as often as me! They all fit in one smallish zipper pocket inside my bag, and actually could all fit in one hand at the same time! Small, essential, helpful, and when bought at Target, also completely adorable! Five Essential Items-21) Tampax Pocket Pearl

Of all the items I’m asked for by friends, this is probably number one. Somehow our periods seems to sneak up on us, and years ago I decided to always be prepared. Even when I’ve been pregnant or nursing, I’ve kept a few Tampax in my bag in case someone else needs one. And now, this Pocket Pearl style is even better than before. It’s tiny enough to fit discreetly in a pocket (or in a hand, which is how I always sneak one to a friend.) It has the same smooth applicator, but now with an extendable handle–that’s how it starts so tiny. And the string has a back up braid to help avoid leaks. Also, the package is so cute! Fun design and an easy-open tab make it easy to have around at the ready.Five Essential Items-32) Band Aids

For bumps, cuts, and even just hurt feelings, having some Band Aids around all the time can really come in handy. I’ve handed them out on playgrounds, at conferences, at airports, and to my own littles regularly. My kids love the bright colors and patterns we find, and sometimes they become fashion accessories, too. I grew up with a “no blood, no band aid” house, but I’ve taken a different approach and love to have them ready to help people feel better, whatever might be wrong.Five Essential Items-43) Ibuprofen

It’s so nice to have some relief on hand when a headache hits, or yesterdays workout catches up with me. I also am happy to be able to help when friends’ have the same needs. Maybe because of my nursing background, it doesn’t feel at all odd to pass pain relief out to people who ask, and I always remind them to make sure to have something in their stomach before taking some! I keep my ibuprofen in a small plastic pill case inside my bag’s inner zip pocket where my kids can’t get to it when they’re searching for candy, but it’s on hand when I need it.Five Essential Items-54) Washi Tape

You’d be surprised how often I need tape while on the go! For minor outfit malfunctions, to stick notes to people’s doors, or for quick gift drops for friends. Last week I was glad I had some on hand when a friend needed to quickly repair her son’s craft before he saw the dog had gotten it! Always helpful. Especially in combination with the next one.

5) Black Sharpie

Any pen does the trick, but I have a deep love for the basic black Sharpie. I can use it to sign checks as easily as write names on water bottles or leave notes (on washi tape) when dropping off thank you gifts for friends (like this simple leather glasses case.) So far, I haven’t had any child incidences with the Sharpies I have floating around everywhere, and I’m always happy I have one when I need it!Five Essential Items-6With these 5 helpful pocket-sized items on hand, I always feel prepared to take care of my own unexpected needs, and of others around me.
