I know it’s springtime, and the season of berries and citrus and fresh herbs. And we’re feeling those around here, too. But my kids love apples all year round! We always have them on hand, and they’re a favorite anytime snack. The boys have a special fondness for homemade apple pie, which I make on occasion, but not all the time. This quick and delicious Apple Pie Bowl is a great alternative!
The other day when Milo asked for a piece of pie after dinner (I didn’t have one on hand) we brainstormed how to make something that would taste sort of like pie, but only take a few minutes. He came up with this super simple apple pie bowl! And I think it’s sort of perfect. The applesauce is simple and fresh, the pretzels add a perfect salty crunch, and everything goes with ice cream. Making one is so easy the kids can help, and it really only takes 5 minutes. (Maybe less if you already have applesauce on hand!)
Easy homemade applesauce:
Peel 2 apples and microwave them for 2 minutes to soften them up.
Blend them in the blender, and add 1/2 tsp of cinnamon.
To make the Apple Pie Bowl:
Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a couple salted pretzel rods and call them done!
