Sewing for Plum has been so much fun. When I was pregnant with her, almost overnight my sewing changed from being almost exclusively for myself to almost exclusively for her. I was thrilled to be asked by Willow and Co. Patterns to sew up one of their new patterns as part of their pattern tour. I love pin tucks, and this little Limon Top Pattern immediately jumped out at me. It was a fun sew, I learned some great new techniques, and Plum looks totally adorable in it. Win all around!
I’ve had this little floral print in my stash for a couple years and it seemed like the perfect match for a lightweight summer top. Because I sewed a size 2T, the “top” is more like a dress, but that’s perfect because she’ll be able to wear it with bloomers now and with shorts and leggings later (always with Freshly Picked moccs, of course). The pin tucks give the Limon Top a cute, full shape at the bottom, and I love the simple details.
True to form, I used the pattern as a baseline and made a couple adjustments. I shortened the lining to end a couple inches below the armscy, because Texas summers are too hot for a full double layer. Also, the sizes 6m-3T need a placket in order to fit over the head, but rather than put the placket with ruffle trim on the front as the instructions advise, I used the placket pieces and instructions to make a little contrast placket in the center back. I just loved the simplicity of the pin-tucked front, so I wanted to keep it that way! The lightweight chambray was a great coordinating fabric for the placket, and I get all the heart eyes for the back view! The PDF pattern was layered, which meant I could choose the specific size that I wanted to print, and not have to read between the size lines. I had never seen that before on a pattern and it was such an awesome feature. This top is a new favorite. It is a beautiful addition to Plum’s summer wardrobe.
