We’ve had an ice cream maker for a few years, but it was the kind where you needed rock salt and a pile of ice and a couple hours. I was very romantic about the notion of homemade ice cream with the classic wooden bucket and manual churner, but the reality is that we almost never use it. It was too much preparation and work! This year for Christmas my in-laws gave us an automatic ice cream maker. The kind with the bowl that you pull out of the freezer and pop in the machine and twenty minutes later you’re scooping deliciousness onto the warm waffle cones you made while the ice cream churned…
I guess I’m still a little romantic about it.

Instead of the typical heavy cream, the base of this ice cream recipe is chocolate milk.
