This is how Milo rolls when we shop. Ever more interested in what’s ending up in the basket than in watching me choose. The other day I placed an avocado up on the conveyer and noticed a Milo-sized bite out of the top of it…curious. I know I should tackle him into the clip, but he’s so much more happy when he’s free to move about. Like today, he was thrilled to discover he could stand up on the seat. He looked a bit like a trick rider in a rodeo trying to balance while leaning down to hold the bar, bum in the air as the cart jiggled through the aisle. He’s going to get quite good at his shopping cart tricks, because I feel like we spend lots of time grocery shopping. It’s really only once every week or two, but somehow those in between days pass really quickly and before I know it, we’re out of milk, or bread, or eggs (but never cheese, funny enough;) I can’t wait until the summer comes on strong and I can shop at the Farmer’s Market…now there is an experience I relish! As for now, however, I am sustained through trips to the store by a few simple pleasures:
1. Milo’s endless cart antics
2. Sticking my nose into a bunch of fresh cilantro and breathing deeply (and buying it of course!)
3. Standing in front of the endless selection of cheeses and choosing a new variety to try
4. Shopping the perimeter and not even bothering with the miles of flashy packages
5. The friendly fish market man
6. Sourdough baguettes, cinnamon raisin loaf, three-cheese semolina, rosemary rolls and sliced wheat…all in one trip
7. Choosing which will be the token fruit in the salad this week (pears usually win)
7. Passing on all the things that I haven’t yet run out of!
