Okay, it’s still spring, and things are still a’blooming here in these parts. The flower inspiration continues! In the last few weeks we’ve made felt flowers and flower belts…and today we make a very easy and very versatile gathered fabric flower.
1. Cut a strip of lightweight linen or chiffon 1.5-2″ wide and about, oh maybe 15-18″ long
2. Knot the end of a thread and then stitch back and forth through one end of the fabric all the way along the length
3. Gather the fabric all together at the knotted end of the thread, and then roll it up
4. Stick the needle all the way through the rolled fabric, on the stitched end, once or twice to secure the base of the flower
5. Rub your finger along the un-stitched ends of the fabric to create some fray, then cut off the really long pieces, leaving just a fun hint of the raw edge
7. Cut two small circles of felt and hot glue them onto the base of the flowers to further secure them, as well as to hide the stitched area
9. Maybe make a few more and stitch them to the neckline of a simple tee…or string them into a festive flower garland…how I love endless possibilities.
