Our Asian adventure will go down in our family book as an incredible time of discovery, learning, tasting, laughing, and reflecting. As you can see- it is a very different place.
Around every corner we found something delicious and fresh to munch on (we avoided the pigs legs.) Usually we bought fruit from these cool clear plastic karts. The vendor would cut it up in, throw it into a plastic bag and stick a long toothpick in it.
We took advantage of our beach time. Lounging was something neither of us had had enough of in the last couple years…I think we made up for it!
Almost every sign and menu had hilarious mistakes: “Rast berry”, “Raicin”, “Haagen Dazs Ice Scream” (not kidding-it said that on a menu!) and “We Buy EVERYTING”-just like they say it!
It was priceless to have three whole weeks together 24/7.
Renews the heart of the marriage.
It’s amazing how many things you can learn about the person that you’ve loved and lived with for a while . Dave is way cooler than the stud that I already thought he was!
We learned that Ronald is Buddhist. Spent hours on trains and buses. Sweat that sweet tropical sweat. Lived like hippies. Slept in hostels. Showered in COLD COLD water. Fell asleep to the chirping of house geckos. Bowed to Buddha. Marveled at the sunset. Devoured Ice Scream like we’d been deprived (we had been deprived.)…Filmed a documentary-I’ll keep you posted on the release date.Woke up early. Burned our mouths on Thai Curry. Ate with our hands.Froze to death in Air Conditioning. Saw live eels in buckets for sale on the street. Bowed to Buddha again. Lived in our novels. Dug our toes into the sand…
…and yes, we got to hang out with the BIG CATS. Couldn’t have been better.
