Happy Friday! We’ve been feeling all sorts of festive. I think it’s because our home is filled with little bits of Holiday cheer all around. We bought our tree (all romantic-like at Home Depot for twenty bones) and the following day Milo and I dressed it up nice with some elephants and wooden beads that Dave and I bought in Malaysia a few years ago. I hadn’t planned on using them this year. In fact, Dave and I had settled on the idea of tying string to a bunch of Milo’s little cars and toys and using those as ornaments. But Milo found the elephants in the Christmas Box and was thrilled. So, up they went. He could help with even the highest hung elephants, because the tree only has about 6″ on him. Just enough to keep him from messing with the star on the top:)
Just like the ornaments, the other decor we’ve put up was all from things we had around already. Except for that boss tree skirt. It’s a poncho that I bought at a thrift store this week to wear to an ugly sweater party. It won me a bag of kisses at the party, then came home and is now doing it’s duty under the tree. Isn’t it awesome!?
I saw this idea for displaying Holiday Cards on a Kirsty slideshow a few days ago. Who knew that bells were the perfect size for holding Christmas greetings?
Some thick grosgrain ribbon (saved from a wedding gift from Williams-Sonoma) makes my closet into a gift. Another wide green ribbon (leftover from my wedding) does the same over my sliding porch door. Decorating doesn’t get much easier than this!
Our stockings are hung on the chimney living room wall with care thumbtacks. Some J O Y ornaments tied to twine, taped to the wall with washi tape gives a festive feel.
I cut the bottom most branches from the tree, and wired them together to make a little over-the-window garland. Scrap pieces of red satin ribbon and pom pom ball trim dress it up a little.
Meet Rouldoph’s wife. I found her at the thrift store and couldn’t pass her up. I love deer anyway (even though one ran into me once in high school while I was driving home in the wee hours…car and deer were fine) but I feel like she and I relate. What with busy husbands who love their jobs, but are really busy doing them well and on occasion gone late into the night (so that those clients children in Japan get their files gifts!)
Dave agreed that she needed a Midas Touch, however, so I gave her a little coat of gold spray paint and welcomed her into our Christmas Decor. We’ll take care of her until Rudolph gets some time off after the Holidays…
With the halls decked, Hue & Hum on repeat, our advent in full swing, and my new duds, I’m feeling ready for Christmas.
Now I just have to finish all of the handmade gifts I’ve begun (or thought about beginning…), print our greeting cards, and figure out what to get for Dave. My gift to him is usually an epic fail. Next week I’ll share a great idea of what NOT to get your husband for Christmas… that’ll keep you in suspense over the weekend:) I welcome any ideas…
What are you up to this weekend? Anything festive? We’re off to see A Christmas Carol tonight, then building our gingerbread house on Sunday. Have a great one!
