After a couple weeks of nap time madness surrounding toddler-bed transition, I finally have gotten back to my sewing machine. Not even during nap time, actually, as I still spend the majority of it walking Milo back to his bed (which gets so exhausting I end up crashing about the time he does:)
I’ve done some sewing at night, after he’s asleep. And I remember why I love it so much!
These little tees were a last minute project. I needed a birthday gift for a two-year old buddy, and when I couldn’t find a suitable robot toy (it was a robot themed party-and I think it’s fun to stick to theme…), I decided to grab a tee shirt from the table by the door of the toy store, and create a robot tee instead.
The applique was simply hand cut of felt. Felt is perfect for appliques because it sticks to itself well enough that pellon usually isn’t necessary. Also, it doesn’t fray, so the pattern stays nice through endless washes.
Turned out cute, I think!
Of course, If I’m making one, might as well make two and add something cute to the Mister’s summertime wardrobe.
I decided I wanted to do a Rhino silhouette for Milo, and true to my character, I just went ahead and freehand cut a rhino out of felt. Well, once put against the shirt it actually looked sort of like a mutant unicorn. So, I asked Dave to take a short break from his BAR studies and draw me a Rhino.
True to his character he decided to draw first on paper. Um…could we say this man’s got some visual art talent? It’s perfect!
Easy as tracing around it (novel idea, right?…tracing a pattern;), flipping it over to hide the sharpie, pinning sparingly and stitching in place.
I’ve got a few baby gifts on my to-do list, and think they might end up with felt appliques!
