I don’t feel like I’ve really been HOME in Utah, until I head up one of the many breathtaking canyons. Dave’s family invited us up Millcreek last week for a barbecue and campfire and I remembered why Utah is so freaking cool. Fifteen minutes from my parent’s house, we were surrounded by cliffs, pines, the sound of the rushing creek and fresh summer air.
How fun to introduce Eliot to the canyon where I spent a good chunk of my growing up years learning to love the outdoors (occasionally when I should have been in class at the high school down the hill:)
The scene is set for a fun night. What more do you need than a picnic table, fire pit and some tall tall trees?
While we waited for the family to meet us, Dave and Milo jumped over the steps and explored the hillside.
Dave’s Grandma Miriam came and met Eliot for the first time.
We were excited to get to spend some time with Dave’s sister Amy and her family who were in town visiting from GA.
If anyone knows how to eat in style up the canyon, it’s my mother-in-law Melanie. Look at that meal! Delicious.
Cute Mike with his eldest son (who happens to be the man I love.)
Milo and his cousin Andrew found the neighboring fire pit and thought it was pretty cool. Good thing the coals were cold, since Milo pretty much hopped in and grabbed a few.
On our summer bucket list was teaching Milo to make and enjoy S’mores. This was the night.
The regular marshmallows suffered a gooey, melted death while sitting in the car during the afternoon, so it was lucky we had also requested toasted coconut mallows. The coconut kept them from melting together in the bag…and made the S’more taste like Girls Scout Samoa Cookies, but better.
Ooh. I love a good s’more. And real campfire s’mores are always better than even my favorite indoor s’mores.
Milo’s first bite. We feel fulfilled as parents knowing that we are teaching our children about the truly important things in life.
Looks like he loved it. He went back for more.
Love my mountain boys.
As we pulled out to head home, we saw this adorable sight: Grandpa with cousins Andrew and Susanna. It is so nice to be with family.
