Now that the “give thanks” napkins are finished, it is time to move on to the place card for our family Thanksgiving table. I toyed with several ideas, but this one stuck. I am excited to give each member of the family a little gratitude journal to use throughout the coming year!
I found these simple kraft Moleskine notebooks on Amazon and they were running a buy 3 get the 4th free deal. Perfect for me, because I needed all 12! I thought it would be fun to add a little closure feature, since these notebooks don’t have the elastic that I love so much on the traditional Moleskine, then simply hand write each name on the cover.
For each place card I used:
16″ bakers twine
1 button
needle and embroidery thread
pushpin
pen
First I positioned the button where I wanted it, and poked holes through the kraft cover with the push pin. I unfolded the cover onto felt first, to make it easier.
Once the holes were scored in each notebook, I was ready to stitch.
I tied each of the ends of the bakers twine into small knots, then starting on the outside of the cover, stitched the thread through and back. I then added the button and secured it right on as if I were placing it on a shirt. You all know how to sew on a button, right?
That was easy enough!
The twine is long enough to either wrap into the notebook as a bookmark, or all the way around the front to keep the book closed.
It simply loops up and over the button, and will keep the cover tight.
Isn’t it good looking? I love the black and white bakers twine stripe against the kraft cover. It’s the perfect little thanksgiving notebook.
The final touch is a hand-written name at the bottom of each cover. Wouldn’t it be fun to find this little journal on your Thanksgiving plate?
There is so much to be thankful for. These babies will be filled up in no time!
