Yay for family and Horray for 65 and sunny weather! Auntie Rachel is visiting for Spring Break and we’re painting the town red.
Tuesday we strolled and shopped along M street in Georgetown, and the day was perfect for a little picnic along the Potomac.
This guy loves Georgetown Cupcake (okay, who doesn’t?)
Wednesday was a beautiful day for the National Zoo. We got a bit of a late start due to naps (Milo and A. Rachel) and a little Project Repurpose the Wardrobe (Me turning the loose, oil splattered but nice light material tee at L into something a little like and inspired by this. Milo’s tee is also RtW, a little gator over a couple bleach spots…I’m thinking this is a good project!)
The animals were all out and about. Enjoying the nice weather, too I think. The petting zoo wasn’t open, but Rachel thought she’d try her hand at milking…
Whoa, bright sun! We’re talkin’ serious summer on it’s way weather here! Milo adored the elephants…he kept pointing at them then looking back at me like, “Mom! Look at that huge thing! Really, look!”
After the zoo A. Missy took A. Rachel and Cousin Megan to the DC temple and then they had a fun cousin slumber party. I did some non-family-visiting errands while they were away, including whisking another batch of STUFF over to the Goodwill. (I’m 4 items away from completing my Spring Fling Challenge!!)
Today A. Missy, A. Rachel, Milo and I visited Old Town Alexandria. This is one of my favorite places in the DC area! The streets are narrow and charming, leading right down to the river. They are lined with fun shops and unique restaurants…and it’s only 10 minutes away from where we live.
We spent a little while wandering the awesome Torpedo Factory Art Center. I only fell in absolute l.o.v.e. with one painting. It was a commission. Only $1500. Ain’t no thang.
We loved this funny cartoon “Red Headed Strangers” painting. The little word bubbles said things like, “I don’t believe we’ve met!” and ” Let me introduce myself.” Maybe only funny to the mother of a redhead? Anyway…
We ate at Bumblefish. If you live in DC, Kansas City or Philly make sure to hit it up. They have great, inexpensive, fresh sushi (yes, I put those three adjectives together with sushi!) And fun bubble tea. Honeydew is my choice. Mmm.
The chopsticks were a hit with Milo. And he wasn’t even bothered by the pickled ginger and wasabi that he pulled from my plate and shoved into his mouth. Turning Japanese…
Auntie Rachel is here until Saturday, and we’ve got some more great adventures in store…
