Hello from Utah (and my mother’s ginormous computer screen!) We packed up and headed out here yesterday afternoon, and are excited to spend a week surrounded by our beloved families, favorite foods, and the majestic mountains. I’ve a goal this trip of taking photos of people and activities as much as food, clothes and projects (am I the only one who does this?) We’ll see how it goes.
Last weekend, before we left my two good friends and I threw our husbands a surprise party to celebrate their completing the Virginia Bar Exam. As the others are pregnant and I have a one-month-old, we decided to keep it pretty low-key, while still having a fun theme and some simple decorations.
Here’s a peek at our “The BAR is over” party:
What more perfect theme for finishing the Bar than a bunch of yummy BARS? We each chose some of our favorite ‘bar’ treats to make and stacked them up to share with friends dropping by to congratulate our men. The blue and gold are George Washington University colors, so we stuck with those.
There were Chocolate Brownie BARS

Deliciously gooey S’more BARS that Ivy found on Pinterest.
Of course we had candy BARS (a huge bag from Costco that we divided into several glass jars.)
There were rice crispy BARS for the kiddos, with blue and yellow M&M’s (that you better believe I divided out of several of the the mini bags that came with the candy bar variety pack!)
The streamer banner was so festive, and so simple to make! We cut the fringe with my fringe scissors (which was a nice, but unnecessary acoutrament) and then simply twisted them onto a rope. The twists stay put if you want, but can also be slid along the rope pretty easily to adjust the spacing. I’ll for sure make one of these again.

The party was a hit. Think all your favorite friends chatting, delicious goodies in hand, while the brood of three-and-youngers runs wild with chocolatey fingers and smiling faces. Delightful.
And the Bar being over was certainly cause for celebration. Dave feels a little at loose ends without a 20-hour-a-day study schedule, but we’re loving having him around. I feel like we get to begin a whole new chapter of our lives now, one without school…and with a job. Weird and wonderful.
