Barrister’s Ball 2009
April 12, 2009

On Friday morning I turned over in bed and felt a rustling of paper next to me. As I slowly came into awareness, I realized that the paper was actually attached to me by twine tied to my wrist! Dave and I had been joking for a few weeks about the upcoming ball and “not having asked,” or “not having been asked…yet!”
I got out of bed and followed the twine through every room in the house, collecting little note cards along the way that asked, “Will-you-go-to-the-Ball-with-me?” The end of the twine (he used the entire roll from the craft drawer!) was tied to the oven where there hung a sign “I thought it was about time I POPPED the question…”Inside the oven I found a bowl of popcorn…inside that bowl of popcorn I found four folded notes
It was DAVE!! I love love being asked to dances (even though it has been since Senior Prom!) I was so excited to answer-but only had the day to figure something out. What I came up with was this:
I had made Dave a tie to match my dress. Hokey, I know, but I thought it was pretty cool. So, I got a few other hideous ties at Goodwill and hung them up on a line across the porch entrance:
The ugly ties said “no,” “nope,” “over my dead body,” and “uugg, sorry.” The tie said “YES! I’d love to HANG with you at the Ball!”
Luckily, Dave chose the right tie-with the right answer. Finally we were both sure of going to the dance–with each other!!
Doesn’t he look handsome? A little resistant to the bright pink daisy boutonniere at first, but I think it grew on him by the end of the night!
Here we are. This is our official Barrister’s Ball dance photo! Sweet backdrop with those balloons huh? Isn’t the matching great?
I was excited so many of our friends went, too. Em and Brett,
Trent and Erin,
Jennie and Dave…Jennie’s sportin’ the dress I made for her!
The whole group
The dinner was nice, cranberry juice and sprite flowed, and we really danced the night away! It was pretty much pop and hip hop music. Not awkward at all to dance to Beyonce and Soulja Boy with a huge belly!! It was so so much fun!
Yay! We loved the Ball! Milo did great, although if he is born with some hearing deficit I may wonder if it was there before the dance! We can’t wait for next year!
