When a good friend recently moved to California, she left me her patio garden. That included six big planters of green, leafy love. I moved them from her full-sun patio to our full-shade one and crossed my fingers that with water and hope (about all I can give them) they would survive.
Look what I found this week!
Bright red, delicious, albeit miniscule but home-grown STRAWBERRIES! The literally popped out right outside of the posts, where the sun actually glows for a couple hours…
…and the basil, thyme and chives are abundant. Even without the sun’s reach they seem to be happy here.
And the best discovery of all. A rosebud. Tiny, crimson petals. And the bulbous ends of several more stems indicate a bouquet on it’s way!!
After investing in a hydrangea a couple months ago and watching the blooms disappear one by one while the leaves thrived, I sought council from the Home Depot Garden Department. The woman there told me that without sun, flowers don’t grow…and I kissed my dreams of a colorful porch g’bye.
Well, welcome to a new era, where strawberries, herbs and flowers do grow on my patio. I have a permanent grin. And would give myself a pat on the back if I had done…well…anything. I’ll keep it up.
