This morning I had to finish a little project. Inspired by this recent post by Dana (of MADE, in case you’ve not found your way to her, yet.) I got down and dirty with Milo’s stroller cover.
I bought the stroller second-hand on Craigslist and love love love love it! It was in good condition and for less than half of retail. The only real downside was the blue fleece fabric…you can see it in a photo here. There is something slightly grimy about second-hand fleece…right? Even after washing it multiple times I was planning on purchasing a new set (for $100!) at some point. Luckily, now I don’t have to!
Okay, so the stroller was in my living room this morning, instead of in the car, and it’s not the easiest thing to haul back and forth-especially with my toddler and huge diaper bag. So, I had to finish it this morning before taking the stroller back to the car for play group. Good motivation, huh?
There is a reason I only sew during nap time. This is the reason:
When the sewing closet is open, there is a magical world of string, pens, embroidery hoops, thread, zippers and notions that drift out onto the floor, and often throughout the house. In one hour I rescued Milo from two pairs of scissors, a whole box of pins and one very sharp seam ripper. Basically, it’s a dangerous mess that usually ends up with Milo on my lap as I try to finish the last hem. Totally not worth it. Today, though, somehow it was.
Isn’t this a fun, new stroller cover? Thanks to IKEA for my favorite, heavy weight cotton…and for having this particular material on sale for 50¢/yard last year so I could have 6 yards just chillin’ in the closet awaiting this project. Yep, so let’s see. That’s $3.00 for fabric and $4.00 for bias tape for the edges. I’ll take $7.00 over $99.00 any day!
I wondered if the stripes would be too over the top, but I love them! It’s like a fun little café on wheels! And most of the time just half of the awning is out, anyway. So, I think it turned out perfect.
What do you think?
