A Chinese Weekend in DC
January 23, 2010
Friday Milo, Missy and I joined a group of great women to see the Terra Cotta Warriors on special exhibit at the National Geographic Museum. The First Emperor of China ordered a full army –we’re talking thousands of men, horses, weapons…the whole shebang, orchestra, and basically an entire world of stone statues to accompany him into the afterlife. I bet the farmer who discovered the first piece of pottery while digging in his field over 2000 years later had no idea what he was getting into! The exhibit will be HERE until March 31st, so if you have a free day, it is definitely worth a visit.
After the exhibit we all went for Chinese Food, of course. The restaurant was okay. I’m not a great lover of American Chinese food, so it all tastes similar to me…except Panda Express. That is just wrong.

Speaking of Panda’s. Dave, Milo and I went to say Farewell to the National Zoo’s baby panda Tai Shan this morning (and guess who forgot her camera. I was snapping camera phone photos…not bad, huh!) He is headed to China to become a part of a breeding program to continue the survival of Pandas in the wild. As MEMBERS of the Zoo we were invited to a special early hours visit, and it was fantastic!
The little guy came right to the front of his area to munch on some bamboo right when we got there. He is adorable.
There will be a public farewell celebration for Tai Shan next week. Click HERE for details.
