Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind
Ever heard of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? I hadn’t until I received a custom costume request on Etsy for a Clementine costume. I immediately googled to figure out what I was getting myself into, and low and behold, a darling, sort of odd movie showed up.
The customer was interested in the “Cowgirl costume that Clementine wore while hiding in Joel’s memory as a kid…” and this is what that look like:

The denim ruffled romper looked straight forward enough to recreate, and I went to work!
I used a soft cotton chambray for the dress, drafting a pattern that included the tapered ruffled sleeves and minimal A-line skirt of the cowgirl costume.
Wandering in a local fabric store, I was able to find a trim that looked just like the movie for the waistband.
I used orange felt and pink fabric paint to recreate the orange flower detail, which looks a lot like an embroidered patch from a few feet away.
The pinafore from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind grew on me pretty quickly! I actually really love the way it turned out and hope the customer does, too.
Finishing the Costume
With this custom costume on the way, she’ll simply need to source some dark green tights, brown clog-style shoes, a white knit turtleneck, and that perfect blush pink cowgirl hat. The full costume will be incredible.
While I still haven’t seen the movie myself, I love the way this costume turned out and now have the movie on my list! It is so fun for me when a custom order turns out just the way I hope, and this one goes down as a recent favorite.
