DIY Corner Shelves
November 3, 2011
Corners are bad for the Qi in a house.
At least, that is what I learned from the Feng Shui books that I bought and studied a bit a couple years ago. I’ve never gotten technically into the method, but I totally agree that the feeling and energy of a home can be enhanced or destroyed by the placement and choices in decorating. And corners are tricky! I usually try to play with the space, like adding a small stack of baskets in the corner of my front hall, and positioning the couch to bend just in front of the far corner of my living room. In the boys room, though, I was having a tough time figuring out a small, simple, non-intrusive corner solution that would add, rather than take away from the space.
Then Ikea came to the rescue (as usual!) I found that these square wall shelves and knew they would be just what I needed. I bought three, and secured them to the walls, alternating which wall they actually touched, but overlapping the shelves to create a faux corner shelf.
The shelves are high enough off the ground that they can hold some special, decorative items safe from curious toddler hands. They also fill the void in what was otherwise a useless area of Qi-sucking space in the room…whew, glad we solved that!
Do you have go-to corner solutions? Do you even think about the corners in your home? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
