This year for Easter, we hosted some good friends and neighbors for a delicious feast. It was fun to put together the last-minute table settings. After setting dishes and candles out, I sent Dave for some branches from the blossoming tree outside to fill the center up with spring. When he came back with two tiny twigs, feeling sort of bad for the tree, I went outside and got a few more myself:)
The surprise eggs I made turned out to be perfect place cards.
Also, to retain the spirit of the day, I printed off a few of the scriptures from the Easter Story in Matthew 28 and placed one or two on each adult plate. Before the blessing, we went around the table and read them. It was nice. A simple way to bring talk of Christ into the Easter celebration.
Caroline was overjoyed at the sight of the pretty table (oh, and I might have just let her know that after dinner she could smash her egg and find a treat inside!!)
The meal was delicious. A super moist pork loin with crab apple sauce was the main event.
It was accompanied by roasted asparagus, rosemary feta mashed potatoes and some amazing home-made rolls:)
We couldn’t have asked for better company.
We have been blessed with absolutely wonderful friends.
Dave looking smashing in his new spring shirt (brought by the Easter Bunny!)
Milo ate quickly (he loves meat and has started calling all of it “gobble gobble” regardless of it’s actual animal origin…) and got right to cracking his egg. His face when he spotted the first cadbury mini egg was priceless!!
Needless to say, the candy was devoured in minutes, and I think surprise eggs are a new family Easter tradition!
Olive and her million-dollar-I’ve-got-a-chocolate-in-my-hand smile.
Yeah, they were a hit. I loved mine, too. And turns out the mini cadbury creme eggs are actually okay (unlike their huge, two-spoonfuls-of-weird-goop-inside-a-chocolate-shell older brothers…)
Caroline made sure to take lots of photos of the festivities with Milo’s camera.
And, of course, a peep a person (on top of Vanessa’s delightful vanilla cupcakes) to finish the evening off right.
It was a finger-licking good time.
And after the feast, the kiddos got all of their energy out bouncing from the coffee table to the couch, burying themselves in blankets for peek-a-boo, and dancing around silly.
I hope you had a fantastic Easter, too!
