About a year ago my good friend posted a link to Figgy’s Patterns on my personal facebook wall with the caption ” YOU WILL LOVE THIS!” I clicked on her link and my love affair began. The only real problem with this love affair is that I need a baby girl someday to allow me to reach my full Figgy’s potential! Shelly has produced a darn awesome boys outfit though and  today I am thrilled to show off the coolness that is the Figgy’s Banyan tee for boys.

Figgy’s patterns are available in both paper patterns and downloadable PDFs. We received (and are giving away) the PDF of this pattern, which I actually prefer because I can re-print it if I decided to cut instead of trace! The Banyan pattern comes with both the boys and girls’ versions in sizes 18m-8-9yr. The pattern has 8 pages of instructions and 18 pages taped for the tees. The tiled alignment is simple to put together, and once taped the pattern is easy to cut out.

I loved the construction of this tee, which was slightly different than others I have made. The neckband is attached before the second shoulder seam, which makes insertion super simple. Other things I loved about the pattern are the optional details, like the pocket and the flipped and tacked sleeve cuff. I chose to use both on Milo’s tee, since the knit material was really light weight. On Eliot’s, a more stable knit, I opted to keep the sleeves uncuffed.

Figgy’s styling for their patterns is my favorite. From the gorgeous models to the earthy fabric choices, I love it all. The designs are really interesting and different, which draws me in. I also love that the clothes are all made for real kids in real life, not just novelty. I kind of want one of everything in my size! For now I’ll just keep pumping out Banyans for my baby boys.

In the world of hip, trendy boy clothes patterns, this tee tops my list. I made Milo’s out of a really tissue weight sweater knit and slub knit (refashioned from a Forever 21 tee shirt that someone handed down to me) and the fit and drape on his little three year old body is just spot on. It’s breezy and cool, with just enough funkiness in the raw-edged pocket and flipped sleeve hem to look effortlessly stylish. Eliot’s is a more heavy, stretchy knit which fits his rough and tumble personality perfectly. I loved adding a bit of the geometric to Eliot’s tee for an un-matchy matched brother’s look. I love them, and the boys do, too.
