Ever had one of those days when you come to the realization of the overwhelming disconnect between your desires and expectations and your actual accomplishment? Unrealistic as those desires may be, there is still a shred disappointment in accepting less than idealized greatness.
I offer a simple piece of advice for those days, and we all have them: Take control and buy yourself some fresh flowers;0)
As I walked out of the store with my $3.99 bouquet (that I was able to divide among…count’m- three vases to brighten up three different rooms!!) I regained the understanding that I AM IN CONTROL OF MY HAPPINESS. And fresh flowers make me happy!
This morning I was flipping through Dave’s Grandfather’s Book of Thoughts and I came upon this poem, made popular by the recent (fantastic, not only because it’s about rugby!!) movie. I loved it in the film, and thought I’d share. So, here’s my Inspirational Sunday Thought:
INVICTUS
by William Ernest Henley (1849–1903)
But of the night that covers me
Black as the Pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever God may be
For my unconquerable soul.
In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not cried aloud
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.
Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms the Horror of the shade
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me, unafraid.
It matters not how straight the gate,
How charged with punishment the scroll,
I am the master of my fate!
I am the captain of my soul.
It’s thrilling to have the opportunity to CHOOSE HAPPINESS. I would be ungrateful not also share that my happiness is found primarily through CHOOSING the RIGHT. See HERE a response to INVICTUS by Elder Orson F. Whitney of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles.
