Although the interior of our place is great, the work is ongoing outside and upstairs. The peeps who lived above us moved out the weekend we moved in-and the lady offered to sell me the plants that she was going to leave in her front garden. I declined, figuring that once she moved they were pretty much free game to me anyway?! As you’ll see, our front yard was a total disaster. I spent a couple days in August digging out a huge old bush and creating these little rock-edged planters. The landlord said he had plans, but we all know his time-frame is a little different from mine, so on Sunday, when they announced in RS that the missionaries were willing to help with yard work, I jumped on the opportunity and got myself an appointment. Of course, the best part of that was that I was committed and had to go buy some plants and mulch. I opted for the 100% recycled rubber mulch because of it’s 15 year color hold and it’s natural bug and weed resistance. Awesome, you’re all thinking- this plot of dusty land can ONLY get better.
So, the missionaries showed up pulled weeds, leveled ground, planted plants and mulched…
not too bad, huh?
I thought that first planter was bad…this is worse.
Okay, that’s a little better! So, I underestimated my need for plants- they’re expensive though! I’ll add a few more slowly…
bad news pine tree…I want to lop off all of those bottom branches. Maybe next week!
Those three little plants along the side of the house are the ones I transplanted from the other apartment’s front garden- and really, there is enough stuff in there you don’t even notice the absence. They do make a difference over here, however!! Oh- and I obviously ran out of mulch 1/2 way through. I’ll go get some more and fill in those edges.
before…weeds, rocks, dirt, ugliness…
and after-greens, pinks, healthy looking soil (that is actually rubber!), beauty…Elder McCain also put in a granite stepping path from the driveway to the sidewalk, because we cut across the lawn anyway, so we figured it was a good idea! Thanks Elder Duvall and Elder McCain (no relation to the candidate!) Our entrance way is so much more inviting now!
And all of you are invited to come visit!
