One of the problem areas in our home since we moved in has been the reading corner of the boys’ room. There is just enough room to nestle our rocker into the space, but there is no remaining room for a side table. I had a lamp sitting on the corner of the below-window air vent, but it felt pretty tacky. It also was a little tricky to manuver the curtains around the wide lamp shade. I tried a standing lamp behind the chair, but the back of the chair hit it when rocking. When I saw this little table lamp at Ikea a couple weeks ago, I thought it could be perfect–if I mounted it on the wall. I didn’t really know how I’d do that, but for $9.99 I thought it was worth it to just give it a shot.
As with most Ikea products, the lamp comes unassembled. This made it easy to figure out a mounting solution. There was a weight that was meant to fit into the bottom that these two screws go through to hold the lamp in place. I discarded the weight and stacked up some scrap cardboard to hold the screws in place so the lamp arm stays tight. Then I drilled a couple holes through the plastic in the base so I could screw the lamp into the wall.
It worked like a charm. Because the lamp has a flexible arm, it works to bend the lamp to shine wherever I need it! I love having the space behind the chair clear for rocking while we read, and it’s really nice to not have the bulky lamp in the way of the curtain and window.
I don’t mind the cord hanging, and think the whole thing looks whimsical and a little industrial. The tiny LED light is bright enough to light up the room like a night-light, and it’s been a great addition to our home.
