It was last Saturday night, late, when I discovered we were out of crackers. If there is one single thing I don’t want to head into a Sunday (when I don’t shop, and I help Milo sit sort of quietly through an hour church meeting) it is crackers! So, I looked up some recipes and was thrilled to discover that they’re not all that tricky, and I had everything I needed already in my kitchen.
I googled around a bit liked this recipe and this one. In the end, I headed to my trusty friend “How To Cook Everything”, and found Mark Bittman’s easy recipe:
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons water
All into the food processor, rolled out thin and flat.
I added a sprinkle of black pepper and rosemary on the top of one sheet, paprika and sea salt on the other, then cut them all whimsically with my pizza cutter.
Into the oven at 400 for 10 minutes (and then another 5 to get them nice and crisp) and I was done!
And they are delicious–if you like pie dough. Basically, they taste like crunchy little pieces of seasoned pie dough. Milo digs them, and on that Sunday the kept him entertained and sort of quiet. And I will make more sometime.
