Little Orphan Annie
September 28, 2010
Remember how I bought some shoes, and became an indentured Etsy alchemy servant? Well, last night I finished alchemy order number two: Little Orphan Annie.
I think she turned out well, don’t you? Forget that I had to google “orphan annie red dress” multiple times, and still the only original photo I could find was this one. I sort of had to use my imagination and design skills. What little orphan annie dress would I want my three-year-old to step out in on Halloween?
One with puffed sleeves? One with a sweet peter pan collar? One with an easy on/off zipper in the back covered by a bow? Yes, please.
And then my dear neighbor came to the rescue with an old broken locket. Though Annie’s locket was supposedly broken, I thought that may confuse a paying customer. Thanks to some dinking around with jewelry making in my day, I was able to easily get it into working order. I also was able to swipe a chain from a no longer used necklace, to shorten and fix with an appropriate closure. Perfect.
The lining of the dress was originally red. That was before it was too small and I had to use the skirt material from the lining to rebuild the bodice on the new dress. And then replace the lining with old curtains white muslin. It’s always an adventure!
So, another one down. I’m left with a wedding dress alteration (for a friend, not Etsy), a little bird costume, custom initial pillows (for a friend, not Etsy), an adult pinafore, a vampire bride dress, and a punk rock royal gown. Not a boring minute around here during nap time!
