Would you like to receive a bag of freshly harvested, organic, local food every week? Local Harvest is the place for you!
Every state has local farmers that participate in a program called CSA or Community Supported Agriculture that deliver fresh produce (and in some areas dairy, eggs and meats) to a weekly gathering spot to be picked up by the local non-farming types, like myself! For as little as $10 or $15 (mine is $27) per week you can become a part of the Co-Op…supporting these farmers with the $$ that allows them to continue to grow varied organic produce.
Here in NH I am surrounded by farmlands and “live free or die” farmers finding a way to grow real food, rather than just the corn and soy that supports most of America’s food market. It’s always an adventure to see what you’ll get- as the food is local, the weekly produce includes what happens to be in season in your area. This week I picked up:
Red Leaf Lettuce
Red Beets
Green and Yellow Squash
Chinese Cabbage
Fresh Garlic
Beefsteak Tomatoes
Broccoli
Raspberries
As I find ways to use the unfamiliar items, I’ll post the recipes-success or failure!
