I read this word in the New York Times this week. It was the first time I had seen it, and I like it!
My husband and I are catching the local food wave, and enjoying the ride! I’ve mentioned our Concord, NH CSA and have heard of several friends and family members who are enjoying similar veggie co-ops all around the country. We’re also enjoying milk from an hour to the North and fish from and hour South. Last we picked up and enjoyed elk meat from an elk farm in the area. It’s a fun way to reconnect to the people and bounty that surround us. Eventually we’ll have a plot of our own, but in the meantime the fruits of local lands are keeping us going.
Of course, if I am to continue indulging in the dark chocolate and chevre that I love so much (not necessarily together, though I wouldn’t rule it out!) There are some things that I will consume that won’t be local. However, trying to take and give in this little town in this little state is an opportunity to really do something new…shake the hand that feeds me.
