When I do parties, I tend to do lots of details. Some that matter, and some that don’t. It is easy to get wrapped up in all of the minutia and create a to-do list a mile long! Although I honestly enjoy designing a million labels and matching the tablecloth to the invitation (and making tee shirts and favors to match them both:) I also appreciate a lovely, simple get-together to celebrate something fun, like a new baby.
Last week I helped host a baby boy shower for my darling neighbor Olivia. It was a fun gathering of new and old friends. We laid out all of the dippings for Chocolate Fondue, which is always a delicious and beautiful spread (and I was good and ate the fruit and pretzels sans cocoa!)
I filled my favorite class bottles to the brim with Mint Lemonade, which is to die for. Dave says I have a thing for “dirty lemonade” and I think he’s right!
Among the ladies attending were lots of moms, and some soon-to-be (again!)
We first just chatted, visited the fondue table, and chatted some more.
After about a half hour, when it seemed everyone had arrived, I introduced our craft project.
Since it wasn’t a baby girl shower, we couldn’t do the obvious hair bows. And I hadn’t thought far enough ahead to order wooden blocks like at Eliot’s Mustache Bash. So we went with an old favorite: stenciling onesies. I explained the freezer paper stencil method, then let the girls get to it! I provided some simple shapes to trace, and some chose to free hand designs.
We just had the primary colors+black paint, so there was a little mixing going on to get the right hue.
And, they turned out smashingly. I especially love the penguin, done by Jessica and the guitar (which I free-handed, but can’t take credit for, since I saw the funny idea here while googling onesie ideas.)
Milo started out the evening in bed, then quickly was moved onto our bed to watch a movie with Dave and try to ignore the bustle in the living room. Then finally he made his way out to check out the party (and sneak some gifts:)
It’s so fun to celebrate other’s new babies, especially after just welcoming our own. I am always so so so happy for them, and so so so glad that I am not pregnant anymore!
