For some reason the last few weeks have been full of celebration. Dave and I have gotten to share in the great events of some of our favorite peeps.
Today marks the one year anniversary since my dad received a new liver. The transplant was sooner than we had expected and it went just about as smoothly as 3 weeks in the hospital with over 14 hours of surgery and 3 feet of stitches can go. This last year has had it’s ups and downs, but today we celebrated all of his success. They tell you that at one year you will be at 100% recovery. He’s better than that! I gave him a stuffed Hepatitis Microbe to remind him what he has overcome. I think he liked it.
This is the cake the my good friend Kristine posted on her blog a week ago today. It was to remind everyone of her birthday…which was today. She never fails to make sure everyone knows when her birthday is…today…so that they can celebrate with her on the best day of the whole year. Today! Happy 26th Birthday K-Dawg!
April Fools Day my bro-in-law Ben turned 23. We bought him some new Polo tees and he mentioned that Dave and I are helping him build his wardrobe. And thinking about it, we have bought him clothes as a gift for every single gift-giving holiday since I’ve known him!! I think I retain images from a couple years ago of him wandering into the house shirtless or in jerseys without a shirt underneath and the idea that he may need some new clothes stuck in my head. Happy B-Day Ben! I’m glad you’ve grown out of your shirtless jersey phase!!
Words can not describe the sweetness of Velma Lindsay, our landlady who turned 91 years old on Sunday. Now, this is not your normal 91 year old…oh no! Velma is the ward shuttle, driving her friends (who no longer drive) to all of their hair appointments. She plants a garden, shovels the walks and trims the bushes. We took this photo as she opened the door to all of her tenants (and one past tenant) surprising her with a cake. We all share her wonderful home and Velma shares a special place in each of our hearts. Happy 91st Velma…we wish you many more!
Can you believe all of those candles? Grandpa Brubaker turned 90 last week! Again, not your average elder. This man has ridden his bicycle from coast to coast of the United States…all while in his 80’s! He is more active and agile than most 30 year olds. Love you Grandpa. Happy Birthday!
