Today, I ate croutons for lunch.
I meant to whip them up to be prepared for tomorrow’s caesar salad dinner, and ended up eating about one third (with Dave’s help:)
Have you ever made croutons? They’re entirely easy and so much more wonderful made fresh than bought. Here’s how:
Homemade Croutons
1 crusty baguette, cubed into 1-2″cubes
2 Tbs butter, melted
2 tsp ground salt
1 tsp dried garlic (or 2 tbs fresh, minced)
1/2 tbs oregano
Toss cubed bread in butter and spread evenly on a cookie sheet. Sprinkle with salt, garlic, and oregano. Bake at 500 for 10-15 minutes or until crusty. Cool completely on pan before transferring to a bag for storage. Should keep well for at least a few days, and up to a week.
Now I can’t wait for dinner tomorrow.
