I think living in New Hampshire for a year has forever changed the way I think about the seasons. There are not just Fall, Winter, Spring and Summer, but rather, a season for berries, one for apples and syrup, one for overflowing bags of summer squash (and more from the neighbors) and everything in between. I’ve been spoiled by local farms and straight -from-the-garden produce, and my oh my do I love it! Now…like, right now, today and maybe for a week or two more, it is STRAWBERRY SEASON!!
Living outside of DC we are much closer to one of 4 local Target Superstores than a farm, but a great website helped me locate a pyo strawberry farm just an hour away. The drive was beautiful, and the strawberry fields were being freshly watered by Mother Nature, even as we picked! (Ironically enough, it rained when we picked apples in VA, too!)
To say Milo loves strawberries would be an understatement. Check out his shirt! (Don’t worry, Chels, it’s already washed out!)
Ooh was the picking good. Bright red, firm, juicy, sweet. I’ve been thinking I’ll whip up some of these shortcakes, or maybe this fro-yo.
Hope you can find a farm near you on this site, and enjoy the pickin’!
