A Pill Popping Pregnancy:)
December 8, 2010
No, I’m not an addict.
I’ve actually been very proud of my medication-less life:) Always pretty healthy, never taken anything but vitamins for more than a week or two to shake an infection. Turns out  pregnancy doesn’t get shaken very quickly…or easily!
Just thought I’d share some pregnancy-safe Western remedies that have been somewhat helpful for me this time around.*
Extra Strength Tylenol: for those midnight headaches (and maybe muscle soreness the day after trying to do an elliptical work-out:)
Benadryl Allergy: For sinus pressure and congestion
Sudafed: for when Benadryl doesn’t cut it and you can’t breathe
Vitamin B6 100mg + Unisom 25 mg: each night to cut the nausea and sleep (skip the Unisom if taking Sudafed or Benadryl at bedtime)
Prenatal Complex: To keep those tiny organs developing properly
Reglan: if prescribed, keeps the food in the tummy…supposedly.
Zantac: turns a sour stomach and heartburn around
Luckily, I don’t need everything every day. Some days just a Fresh Mozzarella sandwich on a crusty roll from Granatos keeps me feeling my best, but it’s nice to have at least some back-up if it’s 2 am and I’ve tossed cookies all day and can’t seem to get any shut eye. On the up-side, by this point in my pregnancy with Milo I had already gained 10 lbs (as eating carbs was the solution to my sickness) and this time, I’m up only 1 or 2:)
This week finishes out the first trimester. Boy has it been fun! If I decide to ever have another baby I’ll know ahead of time to hire a full-time nanny for three months, and budget for eating out every meal! Seriously, you peeps with lots of kiddos are amazing.
I can’t wait to meet this little one. He/She (though I’m sort of leaning towards SHE) must be a real ball of energy and excitement! Definitely worth all the pill-popping;)
*Now, everyone is different, and every pregnancy, too. Ask you doctor before taking anything. Your doctor knows best.
