Happy Columbus Day! When I welcomed you into my little sewing closet a few months ago, I mentioned that both of my machines are Janome Brand. Today you can find out a little bit more about how I learned to sew and my sewing history on a little feature on the Janome website. Check it out if you’re interested! Really, it’s all been a experimental, trial and error process, and I’ve gotten really great at learning from my mistakes (read: I wear those snips around my neck for a reason…lots and lots of unpicking!)
I’ve had a busy few days. Our little family spent the weekend in Hershey, PA celebrating our 6th anniversary (and gorging ourselves on deliciousness.) I can’t wait to share some of the highlights of the trip. Yesterday I delivered a custom wedding dress to the bride. It looked so beautiful on her and fit flawlessly (cue huge sigh of relief!) I took a few photos that I will post in the next few days, along with a little recap on the designing, draping, pattern-making and construction process. This dress was a challenge, and I learned a lot.
Today I took full advantage of having Dave home from work to spend a few hours letterpressing baby announcements for a good friend and screen printing patches for some custom Rockford Peach Halloween costumes. I loved getting my hands inky, and working with a different medium than my usual. Turns out its a lot easier to sew than print because I can do it at home in the middle of the night if I want. Which I do. Both letterpress and screen printing make me really happy, though, so I need to work them into my schedule more often…somehow.
Wednesday I take off for Salt Lake to join with sewists from around the country for the second annual Sewing Summit. I am so excited! I have a million things to do before I leave (most of which won’t get done) and another million to sew while I’m there. We’ll see what actually gets done. After the conference I am staying to babysit my sister’s four kids (!!!) while she is in Germany on vacation. Wish me luck with that…haha.
I have a couple posts ready to share while I’m away, and may get a chance to post about some of the fun while I’m there. Either way, I appreciate you reading along with my projects and adventures. Have a wonderful couple weeks!
