Just for the record, I do not spend all day sewing. I just sew every day lately! Each Repurpose so far has taken about one nap time. Then I usually put it on and wear it! Probably takes less time than a trip to the mall;)
Circa 1999 my sister worked at Harold’s at Trolley Square. I got hooked up with some really nice clothes. Over ten years later they are still really nice, but a little shapeless and a little big.
The brightly pattered silk on this skirt is beautiful, but it’s two sizes too big, hits about mid-calf, and hasn’t been worn since about 2002. Time for a little shaping and chic-ing up!
Okay, this may not look like a huge change, but wait until you see it on! I took in 4 inches from the waistband-on the front so I could leave the back zipper in place. Then, by adding a seam down the Left side of the front, mirroring that on the Right side, I had about 6 inches of center fabric to reshape. I tried pleats and tucks, but the only thing that looked right was a simple gather. After unpicking and closing the slit, I gathered every six inches down the front, adding detail and creating a more pencil line.
Smooth, sleek, skinny and simple back.
Here’s a closer look at the front. You can see how I pulled in the waistband by unpicking the seam, cutting straight through it, then overlapping the one side. I stitched on the diagonal just for fun. Now, I will wear it- to work today, in fact. And no silk went to waste (or to Goodwill!)
