I have had a tough time fitting a regular work-out into my life as a mom.
I tried daily fast walks with Milo in the stroller. It worked well in the summer when the weather was good, Milo slept, and I didn’t have anything else to do. It worked here, for two days. I think I just lost motivation, and there is nothing really fun to walk to within walking distance (we’re sort of in a concrete jungle.)
Then, I tried taking Milo to the gym with me and letting him play on the floor for 30 minutes. That worked well for one day. Somehow hauling all of his play stuff there and back (I mean, the gym is 100 yards from my front door!!) seemed unsustainable.
Next, I tried doing a work-out video during his morning nap at home. Something about that didn’t work either. Maybe it made me feel bad that The Prenatal Fitness Fix kicked my postnatal fitness butt. Maybe that’s why I now am learning French during that same nap.
For a couple days I just put my work-out clothes on in the morning and wore them around for a few hours as I did laundry and ran errands. Needless to say that one got me no closer to having a healthy lifestyle, just looking like I do.
Last night my ever encouraging hubby helped me nail down the best time of day for me to work-out. It’s evening, after Milo goes to bed and Dave is home with him. Great. Love it. Went tonight and enjoyed a muscle burning 40 minutes of Dancing with the Stars.
Now…the QUANDARY:
If I exercise at night (and this has always been the problem with evening work-outs) I have to shower at night. I am not one of those people who can shower in the evening and wake up with any semblance of workable hair. So, I must shower in the morning. But, why go to all of the work to shower, blow dry, make-up and ready myself in the morning (I use that term loosely-usually around noon) if I am going to go sweat it out at 7 pm and come home and shower?
That, my friends, is the quandary.
