There is a lot of open space in Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, and South Dakota! The drive has been really beautiful. I have never seen so many rolling hills!
Yellowstone is incredible! I can’t believe that I lived in Utah for 25 years and never had been to there! The scenery is unbelievable. We saw bison, elk, black bears, eagles (including a baby in it’s huge nest!) and big-horned sheep. I was amazed with Old Faithful’s grace in spouting 100 feet of water- it was a far less violent eruption than I expected. The boiling pots of sulfuric mud were disgusting.
Thank you Melanie for our breakfast and lunch-every day!
Mt. Rushmore is a lot smaller than I expected…I always thought that it was a huge mountain carving. Turns out it’s a beautiful sculpture carved on hilltop rocks. It is really cool, and the surrounding Black Hills Forest is also spectacular scenery. (One day, Dave!)
We got hot and sticky and dusty with all of the sitting, driving, filling up, driving, driving, PB&H, filling up, sitting, driving. As we drove over the Missouri River we both knew it was our chance to cool off and wash off. Luckily, we have ALL of our clothes in the car, so finding suits and taking a dip was easy! It was wonderfully refreshing.
