Seasonal Veggies: Tomato Tip
June 10, 2010
If a tomato had a label, it would say: Do Not Refrigerate
If you don’t believe me, try it. Buy two tomatoes, put one on the counter and one in the fridge. In two days take a slice of each and compare. The refrigerated tomato will taste a whole lot less like a tomato than the room temperature tomato.
Dave and I both love tomatoes. And after discovering this tip, we really love them!
I have always stored potatoes, onions and winter squash in the pantry, but now, I have also started storing fruit in a fruit basket on the table, and tomatoes and cucumbers in a bowl in the kitchen. In fact, according to this guy, “The only fresh produce that benefits from refrigerators is lettuce.”
