Shop until you Drop (or both babies cry their eyes out)
April 16, 2010
It began as any other great day in DC with visitors…a stop at the White House
Saying “Hello” the the Obamas, chatting about how it really doesn’t look that big, but that it’s super cool anyway.
Milo wasn’t that impressed.
Then, we wandered in the Eastern Market, which has quickly become one of my new favorite destinations. Why? Well,
a huge variety of cheese
fresh produce
seafood
flowers
and pastries. That pretty much sums it up;)
We shared one of those huge apple strudels, a pain au chocolat and a slightly disappointing however refreshing lemonade and then the shopping began!
It was very innocent. We spotted the Monkey’s Uncle, an upscale children’s consignment store where K scored some baby crocs and Converse for $5 a pop! Then we had to stop in at Dawn Price Baby, since it was right next door…
The photographing for some reason dwindled as we cruised back to Georgetown where we strolled through Paper Source and Anthropologie (where I snagged a couple more of these bowls in green, navy, coral and plum!) The day was getting long, and around two pm it was time to get some lunch, but we were almost to the car! So, we thought we’d hit up a little vietnamese sandwich shop that Aunt Missy introduced us to. The traffic on the 66 was stop and go. At two pm. This is DC.
We crawled to the shop, and since the boys were sleeping, I ran in and grabbed a couple fantastic chicken sandwiches with fresh cilantro, cucumber and pickled radishes for $3.00 each. Delish. About the time we finished eating in the car, the boys woke up. Both cranky. I guess leaving at eight am and keeping our own agenda all day will do that to five and eleven monthers!! We had planned on going to H&M to shop the awesome children’s section, but the boys were finished… UNTIL we started driving and they both fell asleep again. We decided we’d make it a quick trip!
Out of the car and into their strollers, once again. They both were great in the store. Milo got to crawl around and pull shirts from their hangers, occasionally pulling himself up onto Jonathan’s stroller to say “hello” with a smash on the head. We found some worthwhile duds. I think Kristine was happy we worked the stop into the day, after all. So, it wasn’t a super “quick trip,” but it was very successful. The twenty minute drive home went well. All except for the last three minutes when we pretty much had to empty the glove compartment and cup holders of everything with any semblance of a toy that might be of interest to one of the two very tired boys in the back seat. Then the last forty-five seconds when both were completely inconsolable and they both wailed in the back seat as Kristine and I laughed so hard we cried in the front seat. I think we were as exhausted as they were…we just couldn’t cry about it, so we laughed instead.
Fun day. Long fun day. Long fun day that the boys loved and then hated. They’ll look super cute in their new clothes.
