Simple Sliders
January 4, 2012

I’m traditionally a fan of little food, but Dave loves “real food” meaning food of traditional size. At our wedding, I was prepared to serve several little sandwiches and mini gazpacho soups, but I was vetoed by the groom who argued (correctly) that if we were going to serve dinner, why not just go ahead and serve dinner? So we opted for full-sized pulled pork and smoked turkey sandwiches from Sugarhouse BBQ Company (which is one of our favorite places in SLC).

I’ll stop rambling and go ahead and say that I may have won over the full-sized food nazi with these simple burger sliders that I made on Christmas Day for lunch. Milo had grabbed the bag of mini sesame buns at the store and thrown them into the cart before I realized it, and when I got to the check-out I went ahead and got them, thinking they would be fun.

For each patty I used 1/6th of a pound 90%/10% ground beef, patted together and sprinkled with a little Lawrys season salt. They grill quickly because they’re mini, so I just had time to slice thick a roma tomato, tear off some romaine lettuce, and toss the buns on to grill a bit. After flipping, each burger got a special bit of cheese from my stocking. A squirt of ketchup and a speared cornichon (mini pickle) later, we were ready to eat. So good (and so little, of course we each had to eat two!)
