I LOVE NH!! I also love organic, plump, fresh blueberries. Today we picked about 15 lbs for $20…
Dave and I have a fabulous little brochure that contains all of the organic farmers in the state, divided by county. Today after my first day of work we wanted to spend some time together outside and I had heard the blueberry crop was perfect for picking. It surely was. The trees were heavy laden and I was thrilled to be relieving them of some of their bow-bending weight. (the above picture was not the norm, but I thought the different stages of ripeness were beautiful)
It somehow felt poetic and raw to be gathering berries from the branches. Utah is not quite as bountiful! We were so happy weaving between the bushes, picking and talking and popping the occasional especially huge berry into our mouthes.
Two hours and four buckets later we were ready to head home. I wasn’t sure if I needed to rinse fresh, organic berries. I dumped a bag into a colander to try and a little spider skittered out from the blue. I figured it would be better to rinse the berries than to freeze the bugs. So, rinsed and laid to dry on kitchen towels, our harvest stretched from one side of the counter to the other…6 feet of blueberries!
Muffins, pancakes, ice cream toppings, French toast toppings, parfaits, handfuls…mmmm.
