There is nothing more delicious, or healthy as homemade bread. What a great way to re-connect ourselves to what we are eating. For all of the cooking I do, I had never ventured into the world of yeast until my mother-in-law shared her simple recipe with me. Now I’m converted! The actual work time is only about 10 minutes- the outcome is far more valuable than the small amount of work. Try it!
*Heat oven to 170
*Butter 2 bread pans
In the bowl of your stand mixer place:
3 1/4 cup warm water
1 Tablespoon yeast (try saf-instant from the grocery store)
1/2 cup pure honey
1/3 cup canola oil
1 Tablespoon salt
*MIX for 30 seconds to distribute yeast
*ADD:
4 cups Stone Ground Whole Wheat
3 cups All Purpose Flour
*MIX on low (level 2-4) for 6 MINUTES
*Prepare a counter top with all purpose flour
*Pour/scrape dough onto counter and sprinkle top with flour
-it will be a little bit runny-
*Divide into two sections and fold into loaves to place in pans
*Place pans in oven and turn heat OFF
*Let them RISE for 60 minutes
*Pour a little melted butter over the top of each loaf (optional)
*Heat oven to 350 and bake loaves for 25 minutes
Enjoy fresh, homemade, bread from the sweat of your brow!
