Welcome to June!! Can you believe it? I am absolutely floored by how fast this year has passed. (I measure time based on my kids’ birthdays, and this time last year, I was about to pop!) June is one of my very favorite months. Summer officially begins near the end of June, but all of the fun of summer starts before that. The kids get out of school, the pools open, the weather heats up. And by June, baseball season is in full swing!
Now, I wouldn’t call myself a big baseball fan—or a big sports fan of any kind, really. But I absolutely love going to baseball games. There is something nostalgic and American about being in the stands at a baseball game, ordering a hot dog from the guy running down the aisle, and singing during the seventh-inning stretch. I spent lots of warm evenings in High School sitting on the lawn in the outfield of the Salt Lake Buzz (now the Salt Lake Bees), watching the game and then fireworks. I also grew up singing in a performing group and got to sing the National Anthem at both the Giants and White Sox games!
When Dave and I were dating, I took him to the Yankees vs. Mets game at the old Yankee Stadium (check out our awesome popped collars! haha) when we spent a day in New York. I might have rather been shopping on Canal Street, but the game was awesome and we still talk about what a fun memory it made. (okay, and I still talk about the cheese fries. Seriously! The best. cheese. fries. ever.) Then, when we lived in New Hampshire, we cheered on the Red Sox. Dave was born in Boston, so that’s his team and we always had such a good time.
When we moved to DC, one of the first things we did was take Milo to see the Nationals play. He was four-months old and I remember how awesome it was to have our little family at a baseball game all together. (Looks like we popped his collar, too. How funny!) Most recently, a few weeks ago Dave scored some last minute tickets to see the Orioles play at Camden Yards, and we dropped everything and took some good friends to share the evening out. The game was cold, but somehow it still felt like summer to be sitting in a stadium, doing the wave, and trying to figure out what was happening on the field enjoying the game.
Dave’s younger brother Ben is working for The Salt Lake Bees this year, and has generously offered to giveaway some tickets so some of you fine readers can enjoy some summer baseball! Next month, when we spend a little time in Utah visiting family, we’re excited to take both boys to a game. It will be Eliot’s first, and at three-years old, Milo will be in absolute heaven. Since the Bees play in Salt Lake, this giveaway will only be available to those of you either living in, or traveling to Utah in the next couple months. Sorry to everyone else!! Two winners will each win two Terrace tickets each (a $28 value for each winner!) and will be able to choose a date that fits their schedule.
Ben is a great contact person for any of you Utah readers who are planning on catching some baseball this summer. The team plays in Salt Lake City throughout the summer (full schedule here), and has a bunch of firework nights (which are always my favorites.) Feel free to email Ben for information regarding tickets, groups, family or student passes, or just to avoid the fees of buying online.
The Bees Tickets Giveaway will be open until Tuesday June 5th at Midnight, and the winners will be posted on Wednesday!
