(the birthday girl enjoys a sweet) |
Oh, how I love parties! This last week I was so delighted to be able to lend a hand preparing for and setting up this adorable sweet-themed first birthday party. The birthday girl is the daughter of one of my best friends, and a real sweetheart. The theme was very fitting!
(the sweet shoppe table) |
We used a variety of clear glass containers for the myriad of red and blue sweets. Individual striped labels matched the similarly designed invitation, and dressed everything up a bit. Seriously, you can never underestimate the power of packaging!
(lollipop display board) |
These fabric-covered foam core boards displayed lollipop cookie favors behind the sweets. They not only looked adorable, but also drew attention away from the vertical-blind clad window!
The cookies were baked onto cookie sticks, allowed to cool, and then frosted with royal icing. We piped the colored icing all around the edge and swirled inward, then once it had dried slightly, flooded the white in the open space. Once hardened, the cookies were covered with upside down cellophane bags, tied with a ribbon and hung between two straight pins that we stuck into the foam core. That way they stayed straight, and were easily removed by guests.
We had some fun with the colors. Making stripes in the jelly bellies by holding the bowl on it’s side, pouring one color, then holding a piece of card stock on top of them as we poured the next color, and so on.
The red and blue are such adorable colors for a little girl party!
Along with several different types of gourmet candy, the host offered some still yummy, but slightly healthier snacks as well. Yogurt raisins and animal crackers. Milo double fisted these raisins:)
(candy bunting) |
Above the sweet shoppe hung a little bunting of tissue and cellophane candy. It was a fun and simple detail to drape across the area.
Perfection, eh?
(soda and cupcake station) |
We used a simple fitted sheet to cover up the bookcase and turn it into a little soda station. Striped labeled bottled soda and striped straws made everyone happy:)
(soda and straws) |
I’m a total sucker for a cute straw, and these striped ones had me at hello. I might have packed one home in my treat bag to enjoy in my kitchen.
(personalized cup cakes) |
You can’t throw a birthday party in 2010 without cupcakes! These delicious ones were home made and spiffed up with monogramed toppers.

My little guy loved every bit of the bash. He’s got a sweet tooth…like his mom.
(the big reach) |
What a fun way to celebrate the sweetness of a first baby growing up just a little bit! I loved the chance to help a little with such a thoughtful and special party. And I have eaten licorice for breakfast the last two days:)
