Last week Dave and I joined the Mark and Krista Numbers for a decadent dinner at La Caille…on the owner! Krista spoke with him last week at Granato’s (he’s a good friend of Krista’s granddaddy Granato.) In talking, he offered to sponsor the annual Utah Rugby Fund raiser there at his restaurant, which will be a big upgrade from the officer’s club at the U, where it’s been for the last few years. We four were invited to come and enjoy the La Caille experience, to see if it would work for us…as if there was a doubt in our minds!
Mark turned the head coaching of the U Rugby team over to Dave this year. Even though he had assistant coached for a couple years, we were slightly unprepared for the amount of time that is invested in order to be prepared for practices and matches. This dinner was a perk of the job. Being able to help plan this awesome fund raiser is a perk of being the coach’s wife:)
I have been to La Caille lot’s of times for events and weddings, but just plain reservations for dinner- this was a first. The process is fun and naturally lengthens the dining experience. The menu we were first handed was hor d’orderves. The whole menu. We started to decide on a couple to share, until the waiter subtly let us know that they are individual portions…
Entrees were a fabulous array of lamb and venison and duck and choice cuts. Ooh, and the desserts are amazing. I asked for chocolate mousse even though it wasn’t on the menu, and it was rustled up from the kitchen for me. Delicious. Good that it was on the house, because I think the bill was about a month’s worth of rent.
