I started off the week with a goal to begin baking our own bread. My mother-in-law Melanie has this amazing, 6 minute recipe that always turns out delicious. I got a little worried in the beginning… …is it supposed to look like this??
Well, after a reassuring phone call I had the confidence to go ahead and stick it in the oven. Real bread emerged an hour and a half later!!! The bread pans that I’m using are a little small- more for banana breads and such, but we’ve enjoyed toast and sandwiches with these little guys all week! yum.
On the same note- the kitchen in the apartment is mostly installed! You can see I’ll have plenty of light from the window. There will actually be a sink under that window soon. Our landlord has pretty good taste. The cherry cabinets look warm and nice. I’m wondering a little about the bluish counter top, but it will be functional, and at this point (12 days after our move-in-date) it is perfect!
Not as much happening in the rest of the house. Projects yet unfinished include: installing hardwood in the 2nd bedroom, replacing all the windows, finishing plumbing and electrical, installing kitchen appliances, installing closet systems and doors, installing molding around a few of the windows, crown molding throughout the space, sanding and refinishing the floors, installing floorboard heat vents….and, of course, moving in!
We’re happy that we’re here, even if not yet settled into our place. The Schroyers, who we’re staying with, have made us feel welcome and comfortable in this sort of awkward limbo. Meanwhile, the days keep passing…every every time we visit the house there is another little something finished.
Love the sink…it’s all going to be worth the wait!
And, we’re waiting in style…Dave surprised me yesterday with tickets to the Indigo Girls concert! I LOVE the Indigo Girls and at one point wanted to name my first girl Indigo (okay, I still think it’s cute!)
The show was at a park about 40 minutes south of Concord in Lowell, MA. We got there to spread our blanket around 4pm then spent the afternoon lounging, talking, eating our picnic dinner and reading our books. The show opener, Rose Polenzani, was really talented, and the IG were incredible! They are so musically talented! After every song there was an instrument change from guitar to mandolin or harmonica or banjo. They both play them all. I loved it, and Dave (is embarrassed to admit that he) loved it, too. Long post, great week!
