The Benefits of a Propane Fire Table
Our backyard got a little glow-up this spring when we decided to replace our wood burning backyard fire pit with a new propane fire table. The swap came out of a desire for added ease, lower maintenance, and longer term sustainability for our family. We’ve already been thrilled with the change, and find ourselves hanging out together around the fire much more often than before. I’m happy to partner with the Propane Education & Research Council to share a few reasons why:
1. Easy Start and Stop
Contrary to a wood burning fire pit, with propane, we can get started with the flip of a switch. This means less time preparing ahead and waiting for a fire to get burning. In an instant we have a warm, dancing flame ready to enjoy. In fact, the propane fire table has been so easy to use, we sit and hang out around it much more often than before. It offers the subtle warmth and glow that keeps a conversation going for hours. Then, we can simply turn it off and walk away.
2. Accessible Storage
Unlike firewood, propane can be stored outside in any weather, and is readily available at stores year-round. I was shocked when we first moved to Texas to learn that firewood season was during the winter, when growing up in the west I had always associated backyard fires with the summertime. We are able to easily access propane tanks year-round so we can have a fire on the ready whenever we want!
3. Variable Flame Level
I had no idea how much fun it would be to be able to choose a low, moody flicker or a large, roaring fire. The different levels of heat and flame allow us to enjoy the fire pit for different types of occasions and situations. Rather than the main event, sometimes the propane fire table has been a pretty, cozy glow while we read books or play lawn games.
4. Sustainable Energy
Propane is an environmentally friendly and clean energy source. It is better for the environment than other energy sources, including wood. Propane is also non-toxic and can be used anywhere without worry that it will contaminate groundwater sources or soil. (Beyond fire tables like ours, propane is used in millions of households around the country for home appliances like water heaters, furnaces, fireplaces clothes dryers, standby generators, ranges, and stoves!)
5. Safe and Family Friendly
Of course there is inherent risk with any fire burning, but with this new propane fire table we aren’t dealing with flying ash, sparks, and burning logs. The table itself stays cool while the fire burns, so we can set drinks and snacks around the edges and safely enjoy the fire. At the end of the night, the fire turns all the way off without risk of dying embers floating away or flaring back up once we are in bed.
There is nothing more important to me than building a meaningful life together with my family, and being able to add this extra ease into the way we use our yard to gather together has been really amazing.
